Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
NT&AS teachers are skilled in supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Using the Positive Caring Relationships behaviour model (PCR), NT&AS teachers are encouraged to think, with greater depth, about the child’s lived experience. Teachers use an adaptive, collaborative approach to create a positive and safe space for learning, encourage regulation skills, resilience and most importantly, self-worth.
Our teachers are trained in Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Practice and PCR. They are skilled in working with young people experiencing:
Anxiety
Trauma and attachment
Emotionally Based School Avoidance
Emotional regulation difficulties
Social interaction complications and problems in forming relationships
Diagnosed ‘disruptive behaviour conditions’ such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder
Other conditions including eating disorders and substance misuse
Those at risk of self injurious behaviour
ADHD
NT&AS teachers are trained to understand a broad spectrum of behaviours particular to ADHD. NT&AS adapts the curriculum and approach to accommodate difference. Each young person is offered a personalised provision that supports their education and emotional wellbeing.
