Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

NT&AS teachers are skilled in supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Using the Positive Caring Relationships behaviour model (PCR), NT&AS teachers are encouraged to think, with greater depth, about the child’s lived experience. Teachers use an adaptive, collaborative approach to create a positive and safe space for learning, encourage regulation skills, resilience and most importantly, self-worth.

Our teachers are trained in Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Practice and PCR. They are skilled in working with young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma and attachment

  • Emotionally Based School Avoidance

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • Social interaction complications and problems in forming relationships

  • Diagnosed ‘disruptive behaviour conditions’ such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder

  • Other conditions including eating disorders and substance misuse

  • Those at risk of self injurious behaviour

ADHD

NT&AS teachers are trained to understand a broad spectrum of behaviours particular to ADHD. NT&AS adapts the curriculum and approach to accommodate difference. Each young person is offered a personalised provision that supports their education and emotional wellbeing.
