After 12 years of working in mainstream education, I was exhausted, disaffected and looking to leave the career I once loved. Searching for something different, I came across NT&AS and began working as a teacher of autistic children.

11 years later, I am still supporting children with learning differences. I have expanded my knowledge and understanding of SEND needs and am now proud to call myself an experienced SEND teacher. I do not regret my career decision and enjoy my work.

Despite working 1:1, I feel completely supported. I feel as though I am part of an organisation that is motivated by the need to improve outcomes for all children. Its life affirming and highly rewarding work.

Teaching in mainstream schools was something I really enjoyed, but when I had a family of my own,  it became harder to juggle the pressures of parenthood with the commitment needed for a class of 30 children! I didn't want to leave a career I'd worked so hard for, but needed the flexibility to support my own family. I looked into supply work, but this felt far removed from what I was used to.

A colleague already working for NT&AS recommended them to me. I called NT&AS to find out more and knew instantly that this was my next step.

I have a timetable each week and can really see the progress I'm making with the young people I work with.  Its so rewarding to see a child re-engage with education and succeed. The flexibility also enables me to be there for my own children - doing school drop offs and pick ups for them which felt important to me. Its been 6 years now, and I can't imagine working anywhere else.

Following a spell in retirement, I knew I wasn't quite 'done' with teaching. I missed the reward of seeing children succeed and the interaction with other professionals. I also knew that I didn't want to return to a mainstream school and work with large classes. I had heard about NT&AS through a Facebook Group and decided to contact them.

I was delighted they valued my experience and recognised what I could still offer to children. I specialised in Primary Education throughout my career but with support from specialist Subject Coordinators and my Team Manager, have been working with children in KS3 and 4 which I have absolutely loved. Its given me a whole new skill set and I feel valued and appreciated
