In response to the mass evacuation of vulnerable Afghan citizens in Kabul (2021), NT&AS was the first Alternative Provision to mobilise and offer its support.
Within weeks of arriving in the UK, over 100 children were referred by Essex to receive intensive EAL tuition provision. Following a 12 week programme, all young people referred were successfully transitioned into mainstream placements. Where SEND needs were identified, specialist EAL SEND teachers were allocated. After this success in Essex, support was rolled out nationally
NT&AS continues to offer tailored EAL support for refugee children and unaccompanied asylum seekers and where appropriate, follow-up consolidation in a school setting. We take referrals from Local Authorities across the UK and are well equipped and experienced to deliver 1:1 EAL tuition provision. All EAL teachers are sensitive to the impact of trauma and displacement. Our 'English language and culture toolkit' provides the essential communication skills needed to integrate successfully into school life.
All EAL teachers understand the adversity and trauma of asylum seeking children and refugees and with a trauma informed approach, deliver EAL sessions with a range of inclusive, culturally sensitive materials to deliver 1:1 focussed sessions.
