Mental health of Young People

One in ten children and young people aged 5 to 16 have a clinically diagnosed mental health disorder and around one in seven has less severe problems. Certain individuals and groups are more at risk of developing mental health problems than others. These risks can relate to the child themselves, to their family, or to their community or life events.

Families

NT&AS teachers work closely with families to help gain an understanding of how education can contribute to the well-being of young people. We offer one to one teaching with a specialist teacher either in or out of the  school setting using a cumulative, structured, multi sensory programme which is recognised to improve skills, confidence and self esteem. An individual learning. plan with clear objectives will be provided and progress regularly reviewed.

Schools

NT&AS has developed strategies to help young people facing mental health problems manage school attendance. NT&AS is skilled in helping schools support the emotional well-being of young people. NT&AS  works  with schools to implement joint health, education and care plans to ensure  safe planning and delivery.

Health and social care

NT&AS is familiar with a number of therapeutic approaches and are used to working with psychiatrists and other mental health practitioners. We are able to provide academic and social skills teaching in hospital and secure environments as well as residential and community settings. We are proactive in contributing to multi agency plans and provide reports for assessments.
