NT&AS Keynote Speaking NT&AS Chief Executive Tim Walker contributes to numerous conferences and seminars, both nationally and internationally, as a keynote speaker. He argues that education, social work and mental health practice has failed some of the most vulnerable children and young people in society and that significant professional and financial resources are commonly invested in a range of provisions that routinely fail to deliver the entitlement of these children to a high quality education within the mainstream sector. NT&AS supports the view that children significantly underachieve as a consequence of being looked after rather than their individual circumstances or pathologies. Tim's seminar and conference contributions focus on the philosophy and principles that the NT&AS maintains should inform the development of local authority services for looked after children and children in need, including those facing the most extreme levels of difficulty. Tim suggests that the interests of looked after children and children in need coincide with the strategic, operational and financial interests of local authorities, and would be best served through incorporating professional education practice across the continuum of social work practice. Tim argues that education, social work and mental health practice has failed some of the most vulnerable children and young people in society and that significant professional and financial resources are commonly invested in a range of provisions that routinely fail to deliver the entitlement of these children to a high quality education within the mainstream sector. Furthermore, NT&AS maintains there are effective ways in which the apparent dichotomy between the interests of mainstream schools and those of individual children facing extreme levels of difficulty may be resolved.
