The Funding of Schools

1. Direct Funding:

Schools receive their core funding direct from central government.

Core Funding: - Age Weighted Pupil Unit (A.W.P.U.)
Special Status:  - Beacon Schools
  - Sports, ICT, Performing Arts etc.

2. Formula Funding:

Additional funding is available to schools in respect of particular individuals or groups of children.
These funds are often administered through the Local Education Authority (L.E.A.) according to approved formulae.

Excellence in Cities: Provision of Mentors to address both underachieving and gifted and talented children
Social Inclusion Pupil Support (S.I.P.S.)

Funding: Prevention of exclusion

- Government Targets
- Formula includes 'disadvantage' weighting
- Fines
- LEA Services

· Special Educational Needs (S.E.N.)

Funding: - School budget

- Individual funding per statement/assessment
