About NT&AS

Formed in 1998, the NT&AS is a national education service for Looked After Children and Children In Need. The organisation provides a range of direct, practical, strategic, training and consultancy services to Education and Social Services Departments, Health Authorities and to the independent child care sector. We are the only national organisation which explains and meets the educational needs of Looked After Children and children in need using a wholly inclusive approach.

If you work for an Education Department, Social Service Department or other care or education providers, and you want to:

  • Improve your services
  • Save money on your key budgets
  • Meet your government targets
  • Enhance the opportunities and outcomes for children

we provide a number of services that can enable these outcomes.

We work directly with children themselves, the focus of which is to research, plan and support mainstream school placements irrespective of children's circumstances or the level of difficulties they may face in their lives.

NT&AS advocates that the provision of high quality education casework significantly improves:

  • the effectiveness and efficiency of the social work system in helping, for example, to prevent placement breakdowns within foster and residential care;
  • the safety of children who need protection and reduce the possibility of them drifting into homelessness, unemployment, poverty and crime.

We are committed to working in a child-centred, multi-disciplinary and anti-discriminatory framework, in close partnership with professional colleagues throughout the public care system, teachers in schools, children and their parents and carers.

Our work also aims to heighten opportunities for social inclusion through meeting the following objectives:

  • Improving attendance figures - (performance league tables)
  • Improving attainment levels - (performance league tables)
  • Reducing exclusion levels in the primary and secondary sectors
  • Increasing access to the National Curriculum
  • Ensuring consistency of support to children and schools
  • Promoting the educational interests of Looked After Children and Children In Need
  • Acknowledging in structural and operational terms the centrality of education issues within social work

Contact us, and we can discuss how we can help you, your services and the children for whom you are responsible.
